Met with the specialist last night. She put out the possibility of tourettes. Could be after really watching him blink as he tries to express himself. would also explainn sounds and such. Anyone else had this experiance?

When the specialists pull out the 'possibilities' it's just that: A possibility. And it is. But is it likely?

Quote
Alright i turned 45 today and I exhibit all the behaviours of this 2 year old. wiggling check, constant movement, check talking /sing to self check My 8 yr old son is getting into trouble for all of these same things in his classroom. I know its not normal its just who we are.

Sound familar?
This seems much more likely to me...but all reasonable avenues should be explored. What are they doing to explore the gifted avenue?

What the next step?

Honestly I just don't know. He is at a tough point where his inattention to classwork may have him removed from the once a week gifted program. He exhibits characteristics of just about everything kids can be labled. I like the term she used that he is a child with many different flavors. I am just worn out from not knowing what to do and who to believe. I know he is gifted but not "how" gifted that could be. I just wish someone could give me some answer. does anyone know of a specialist or expert in central ohio?

Specialist in what, precisely?

I might have some help to offer, depending upon what you're needing...

I am not really sure. She is through our Children's Hospital behavour clinic. We also have an appointment with a neurologist in Jan. Made many months ago when ADHD meds caused major side effects, including tics. I am at a point where I have been told by the school he is probabley 2e but not what area. I just want to know if we need to be doing some type of therapy, counseling, meds whatever he needs I will do.

I had him by choice via AI so he is my number one everything

Dr. Ed Amend is a nationally-recognized specialist in 2E issues. He's out of Lexington, KY, but I think he holds some office hours in Cincinnati, too.

It might be worth a call. Even if you choose not to make the drive to see him, he might be able to refer you to someone closer.

I sent an email to his offices and am waiting for a response. Thanks so much for heading me towards and expert that is recognized. I've been getting too many lay opinions

I hope he helps you.

If you don't hear from Dr. Amend via email, I reccomend you call his office. He is very approachable, kind and knowledgable.

This is a time when 'lay opinions' just are not going to cut it, and when that time comes, you have to find someone you can trust and rely on. Dr. Amend is one of the few people in the US that is both.

Best Wishes,

I don't know the whole back-story, but just wanted to say, hang in there! Chatting with friends, neighbors etc., can be lovely if your child is pretty much like everyone else's....it can get really annoying, frustrating and downright scary when your child is different and folks don't know when to lay-off the the lay-diagnoses frown

especially when the lay opinions are from "professional"

I can't believe that Dr. Amend actually called me last night and talked for over 45 minutes. I felt so relieved after speaking to someone who gets 2e kids. He took into account what we are doing at another source to save me money and will look over it. i just feel relieved that we are making some type of progress.
