Starting a thread in which to post research that might be relevant to families of 2E students with ADHD or other executive dysfunctions.

Study (2021): ADHD + visual pixel noise

Sharing a summary of a fascinating study just completed this month. This study evaluates the visual equivalent of white noise, and its utility in supporting children with ADHD in completing focused visual tasks and information retention.

Interesting proof-of-concept research. The article you posted appears to be specifically about the use of visual/auditory white noise for learners with reading disabilities but not necessarily ADHD (subclinical in the study population). They also have earlier research that focused on ADHD and EF:

Baijot, S., Slama, H., Söderlund, G. et al. Neuropsychological and neurophysiological benefits from white noise in children with and without ADHD. Behav Brain Funct 12, 11 (2016). https://doi.org/10.1186/s12993-016-0095-y

I think I need to go read up on stochastic resonance.

Good catch, aeh. It was a sloppy post on my part.

Because my DS has been responsive to auditory white noise while he works, the assumption I was working with was that this new view on visual white noise might extend to children with ADHD. But it would have been helpful for anyone who isn't a mind-reader for me to have actually written that. Duh aquinas. wink

Is it Friday yet?
