I'm starting this topic because it seems like there is a lack of information on Aspergers from the inside. I have very mild Aspergers, but it was worse when I was younger, and I would like to help by offering my experience on this. Also, I have ADHD and Dyslexia, so feel free to ask about what that is like too.

Hi Annie
Thanks for offering to help. I'm trying to get to understand my DS8 more.. He's got ADHD, Asp, OCD, ODD, highly gifted. I'm wondering how do you deal with internal mood regulation. Does therapy help? He's been in and out of doctors offices. Very unorganized, sloppy handwriting, and aloof. What are some of the things the school or I can help him with. Also, weird question, but what is he thinking inside. Does he know he's different or is he oblivious to the outside world? As parents, we've always wondered what's going on in his mind and why he does the things he does.

For internal mood regulation, it's a combination of time, experience, therapy, and meds. And organisation for me was something that either clicks or dosnt, sloppy handwriting is a charcteristic of Aspergers, having to do with fine motor control issues. If your school has Individualised Education Plans (IEP's) that can help, and being patient is extremely helpful. Remember that he has a very different brain from yours, and that will never change. He likely cannot see social cues, and may be very rude. He likely isn't trying to be rude, but it comes out that way. It is frustrating when. You have no idea why people are mad at you, but all of a sudden they are yelling, and it's also very scary. He probably is not trying to be aloof, but that's how it comes out. And yes, he is probably aware he is different, but doesn't know why. I hope this helps, if I missed anything feel free to ask follow up questions
