It’s been a long time since I’ve posted! Much to my surprise, we have been having a pretty good year in K. (as well as in 4th for my easy textbook giftie ). The teacher seems to “get” my son’s personality, but probably not his intelligence. However, since his know-it-all & I’ll-find-a-loop-hole attitudes are being received with a smile and gentle direction, I am super happy. Anyways, I took him (5yo) the Psych today and had him tested. (did not want to repeat the long, uninformative, and tedious testing route through the school system!). The Doc was awesome!.. worth every bit of the $200. He recommended that we try the RIAS test first, since it is shorter and usually scores best for my son’s age and “active” personality type, but he also told me that the RIAS has a short cut off for wrong answers, so if he felt my son switching into a “give-up” or "blindly-guess" attitude, he would stop the test and we would do the WISC on a different day. I got advice, answers, things to watch-out for, things to focus on, things to “let-go” of; plus, my son had a blast! This guy played right into my son: “are you sure you are old enough to handle these games and puzzles we are going to go play?” .... Not to mention the fact, that he is going to put a special section in the final report as “suggestions for education and teaching style.” How cool is that! Anyways, thanks for letting share! Oh, and as a final brag =) he told me that my son reached the very end of one of the memory subtests, something he has never seen a 5yo do before.
Now comes the wait for the final results........
