to take a MAP reading score and figure out the lexile or guided reading levels? I am looking at a MAP reading score of 170. This is the score EJ needs to have to skip kinder and I have no clue how to gauge where he is currently in comparison.

Thanks
Sheila

A reading score of 170 on the MAP is the 99% percentile for kindergarten. It is roughly 82.5% percentile for 1st grade, and 34.5 percentile for 2nd grade. Those are the fall scores. For Spring, 170 is 90th percentile for kindergarten, 40-42 percentil for 1st grade, and 12% for second grade. So, if EJ has a score of 170 BEFORE starting kindergarten, than EJ is above the 99th percentile and reading like an average first grader half way through the year.
Hope this info helps!

Thank you. What I am looking for is how that relates to the lexile index. I am trying to figure out what books a MAP 170 reader is reading. He has mastered Biscuit books which lexile range from 90- 150. I think on the scholastic reading levels he is a level C.

If I remember correctly MAP 190 equals Lexile 100.
170 not 190

Here is a link to a table that relates the MAP RIT to lexile ranges.

Aculady.. thank you.. now to figure out where exactly (or close to) that 170 falls . The link you sent.. I am thinking it would be somewhere around 150 or so?

I'm not totally sure on the acuracy of all of these, but here are a few RIT/MAPS score to lexile conversion charts I found:

http://www.ode.state.or.us/teachlea.../summerinstitute/2006/ritlexiletable.pdf

http://mapregionmtg.wikispaces.com/MAP+and+Lexile+Chart

http://www.esu1.org/downloads/virtuallibrary/RITtoLexileReport.pdf

From what I'm seeing a reading RIT/MAPs score of 170 would correlate with a basal/beginning reader level in the Lexile framework, which should be below 100, I believe.

Cricket,
If I match up dd7 RIT , the second and third ones are right on the money!

Thank you
Sheila
