Hello all! I still check this forum occasionally, but rarely feel the need to post. Right now I have a quick question, so any and all input would be appreciated. smile

I took the SATs again in November to see how well I could do (and because some of my friends were getting competitive :D), and got scores that I wanted to keep on my permanent record. At the moment I'm not too concerned about college but am wondering whether they'd look upon this negatively because the scores are from when I was in 8th grade, or whether they don't really pay attention to testing dates at all. It'd be great to just get the SATs out of the way right now and not have to worry about them in high school.

Also, a less pertinent concern but still something that's been on my mind: since the scores for 8th grade and under are purged at the end of the school year, I need to write a letter to CB asking them to keep my scores. At a moment I'm at a loss as to how to phrase this letter. This question seems silly but I really have no clue, and my parents aren't being much help. Would a "Dear College Board:" and a straightforward request be the best?

Thanks. smile

We went through the process to save scores. I would suggest you call the College Board and ask what specific information you need to include in your letter because as I recall there was a specific list of information. It can simply say something like "Please keep scores for x date for y student, birthdate, blah blah."

Most people do find their scores go up in high school and you probably will want to take it again. If you end up as a possible candidate for National Merit you will need more recent SAT scores as confirmation. I wouldn't worry though that it any scores from middle school will look bad later.

Oh, I see. smile Thank you.

If I do end up taking it again the option to superscore from my 8th grade scores would be great, although I don't think colleges would be superficial enough to put a large emphasis on improving scores that are already within the ~2300 range.

Given you are already posting here you probably already know this...but just in case these scores may qualify you for some programs like http://cty.jhu.edu/set/index.html and http://www.davidsongifted.org/youngscholars/
