We just got my 7 year old's WISC V score report and the interpretation of the psych is essentially that he is gifted. There seems to my uneducated perspective to be a pretty big spread in his scores. She didn't calculate GAI, which I would like to know if it is helpful.

Can someone help me understand what these scores mean? I'm not sure how to make heads or tails of them. 42nd percentile for working memory and 18th percentile for processing speed seem like red flags. Does this suggest a second E? Please help me understand.

This is a 7 year old who reads for hours a day, often fiction that is Z reading level and does math that is 5th grade or higher for fun. He does not like handwriting though and his writing is grade level.

It is possible that there is a second e. That is a pretty dramatic difference between Coding (which is the most fine motor involved task on there) and everything else. His processing speed is actually not low; it's just fine-motor speed that is. Also, his visual working memory is noticeably better than his auditory working memory (picture span vs digit span). So again, it's not global working memory that's weak, but a specific aspect of working memory. (And I should note that technically, his WMI is age-appropriate, not below.) His aversion to writing and handwriting is suggestive, and consistent with the areas of cognitive weakness. Did he also have achievement testing done?

And pm.

Thanks so much for your reply. No achievement testing done. I'll check my pm.

I wanted to chime in again with a huge thank you -- as I read through the results of my Google search on auditory working memory, they seem to fit what we see at home.

I really appreciate aeh shedding light here. I am still figuring out what these mean, but so far it has been a huge help. I definitely would not have been on this trail based on the report we received.
