My DD is 9. Her school gives the Verbal and Non-verbal sections of the cogat, but not the quantitative. She scored in the 99th percentile for both parts and has a composite score of 140. She also scored a level 4, the highest level, on the State test taken in 3rd grade. I have always felt she was gifted, she is an enthusiastic learner who is often over excited by things.

Should I test have IQ tested based on the scores? Does the COGAT score show a strong like hood of being gifte at that level?

I she will be in our schools scholars program, but it is not going to be enough. I want to be able to meet people like her and access to the types of things that interest her.

If you can afford testing, it might gain you entrance into DYS. You will probably have to pay a few hundred dollars for an IQ test; you don't mention anything that would suggest that her school would pay for testing. If she doesn't test at DYS levels, you will still get some information about her strengths that you may use in the future. On the other hand, a few hundred dollars could probably pay for a lot of enrichment.

Her CoGAT testing does imply a fairly high IQ, but the only way to know that for sure is to take an IQ test.

Good luck with your decision.

I don't know that CogAT can tell you much definitively. I have 2 DYS - one who tested much like yours, and the other who...didn't. Other was lower. For my kids, IQ was higher than CogAT in both cases. in one of my DYS's cases, IQ was MUCH higher than CogAT. At the end of the day, I have to say that I don't think too much of CogAT.

We waited to test until we needed it to something. Do you feel the scores would be useful to you? Testing did help us to better understand our DC's needs.
