Hi all,

I'm new here. Our 6-year-old son recently received a WASI screening that identified him as gifted. He currently attends a private school and while we're entitled to a full scale assessment through the school district, they are not obligated to do it during the summertime so we're looking for alternatives.

My question to all of you though: Where to start? One psychologist we reached out to mentioned doing a WISC-V as well as a Woodcock Johnson IV.

Being new to all of this, what other recommendations would you have? What guidance would you share parents who are new to this gifted designation such as ourselves?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome!

A WISC-V would be a very reasonable comprehensive cognitive instrument. It is closely related to the WASI-2, so I would make sure that any psychologist administering the WISC-V in the next year has access to his WASI-2 scores. The publisher actually recommends that the WASI-2 subtests be directly counted into the WISC-V (in place of the equivalent subtests).

The WJIV achievement (which is likely the portion referenced by the psychologist) is also a highly-respected instrument, which can be used to assess a broad range of academic areas (reading, writing, mathematics, both skills and applications).

Thank you for your response and your welcome, aeh. Question for you: Is the WASI-2 the abbreviated test or is it something different?
