Hi! My oldest DS just turned 9 and we had to fight tooth and nail to get him tested and identified 2 years ago... Youngest DS will be 6 in June and so I decided to start the testing process... He's a completely different child than the other - not near the early signs and quirks that the oldest has, more laid back, more of a people-pleaser, etc...

So I just got back his test scores and I'm thrilled and surprised...

First time around, no questions asked, no arguing with anyone or asking for any mediation - they agree he's gifted and is in need of specially-designed instruction. Woot woot!!!

And this was the child I had tested "just for kicks" not really knowing what to expect... Shows what I know!

Now to figure out what to ask for in his GIEP.... Any advice?

Congrats on a smooth testing process! Sorry I have no advice on what to ask for in the GIEP - I'd think through what your school district typically offers, and also think through what you think your ds needs based on what you know about him smile

I do have a quick question though - what is the "Picture span" subtest? Was there any explanation from the tester re why that subtest score appears to be so much lower than the others? Or is it a typo?

Just curious!

Picture span is a (sort-of) visual working memory task on the WPPSI-IV and WISC-V.

Thanks! That's a good thing to ask about when we meet... We're only going to do the GIEP the fall, but we'll meet to go over the test results in 2 weeks.

Sadly, the district doesn't do much until third grade, and even my older son only gets pull out for 20 minutes twice per week (on the same day). They are supposed to be differentiating and enriching his math stuff but it seems the stuff that is mentioned in the weekly class newsletter is the same stuff he gets for homework every night, so I doubt much is happening there...
