We received the results from our 2nd child's "Challenge" (G&T) testing and I'm confused about the results. She is 5 in Kindy and her CogAT %ile scores for CogAT were Verbal 87, Quant 94 and Non-Verbal 69. Composite was 83. I'm wondering what the low non-verbal score means? And her ITBS scores were higher--96 for reading and 97 for math.

We know she isn't the same person as our HG older daughter, who scores 99%ile on pretty much everything, but were surprised with the low non-verbal score on the CogAT. Our school doesn't provide any other data so I don't have much to go on when using the online tools for interpreting scores. I've already asked the challenge teacher to help us understand, but would love any insight from this community!

Thank you!

Has she had prior standardized testing experience? It is not always easy to interpret results for very young children on this kind of instrument, as both the overall setting and the particular task-types may be unfamiliar.

Her math and quant scores line up nicely, and her reading and verbal scores are not hugely discrepant. There isn't an achievement area that lines up with nonverbal, which also tends to be the most abstract, and most novel, area.
