I was surprised to see that DD12's MAP score for reading this fall was the lowest it's been in the last two years. It turns out that she does not like Elizabethan English, so whenever she got to a question that had text that wasn't "normal," she refused to read it and randomly guessed the answer. *sigh* DD12 is also my child who likes to argue with multiple choice tests, so I guess I should be grateful that at least her math scores are continuing to increase.

And just how did you find this out?

She told me when I asked her about the test. DD12 is going through a phase where everything she dislikes or doesn't want to do is "stupid." I really hope this will be a short-lived phase.

This won't win me any friends in this audience, but...

... if by "Elizabethan English" you mean "Shakespeare," then this is a phase I've been in for over a quarter century. I remain firmly entrenched in the idea that he's the worst thing that ever happened to the English language, and I'm prepared to defend this position to the death.

So yeah, it may not pass.
