Happy to report that DD 4.5 is going strong on her after school curriculum that we added. (background: she goes to a Spanish Immersion academic school. They are 2 years ahead in curriculum but not enough for DD, yet she is the quiet child that will wait patiently for the class to get around to learning something and will always be in the top of the class when they do start it.) When we first started her there she had the cushion/challenge of learning a second language but that is no longer a challenge and now we are back to being concerned about no challenge. So we have added curriculum for her at home. Today I started her in Math: 3rd grade and was shocked at how quickly she picked it up. She had no problem comprehending it and I have to say it saddens me that if I hadn't started this she would still be content not really learning. [sigh]

Also, DD has made a new friend who just moved in down the street. The girl is in 2nd grade but is excited to play with DD. Given DD's maturity and intelligence, she is pretty much her equal and even the mom was excited for DD to come over. DD is thrilled to have an older kid to play with and I still find it amazing how she adapts to her audience. When at school, around her agemates, she can be immature and babyish, but put her in with the older crowd and she is a different child.

It is so remarkable! You gotta be impressed by your DD's social skills to make that sort of transition. Glad to hear about the new friend and the Afterschooling!
