DD10 just won the spelling bee for her campus - best out of 15 finalists. Woohoo! Her winning word was 'burgundy' and she also spelled epoxy, hazmat, eavesdropper, elegant, interim, and pheasant.

Now onto either a district or a county bee (don't know which yet). We are new to the competitive spelling world but I've been reading up on Scripps. I'm encouraged that she can keep trying until 8th grade - she's pretty good at this!

**happy dance**

zarfkitty,

Huge news! You definitely should be proud of her accomplishment and do keep us posted on what the next round will be. I know another mom who was so nervous yesterday because her 1st grader was participating in the spelling bee at their campus last night. Can't wait to see how he did.

Scripps National Spelling Bee - it's the big spelling bee in Washington DC every year. :-)

Congrats to your DD10!!!

My DS8 SOOOOO wants to be in the County Bee someday. He's not eligible for 2 more years for that, but they have a younger kid's bee he participates in. Last night, he learned to spell "hors d'oeuvre" because it was a word his grandma didn't know how to spell over the holiday, so she chose to use "appetizer" instead. He said that next time she wants to write it, she can just call him and he'll tell her how to spell it.

Zarfkitty, have you checked out Merriam Webster's Spellit? It's an online study guide for the Scripps bee. Here's the link in case it's helpful. http://www.myspellit.com/

Happy spelling, everyone!
