Is it worth sending DS6 this year and hoping to send DS4 next year? Or send DS6 and find some other accomidations for dS4?
Just a thought (maybe better to start a new topic for this question, yes?)

Hi Grinity,

I've been sitting here stewing over the same question, but the logistics of having them at different after-school-care as well seems to make it too difficult. On the other hand I'm worried about adding unecessary upheaval to DS6's life later on, particularly as he suddenly seems to be quite keen on going to a different school this year. I really don't know what would be best, and am so afraid of making our current sticky situation worse with the wrong decision. More stewing is obviously required...

More details please...
How far is the school from your house.
What time to you get done with your wage-work job?
Are there any other adults or young adult drivers who can help?
Does DS4 need to be in school at all next year?
Is there a pretty good chance that dS4 will get in next year?
Have you sat in on classes and seen that the gifted school really has some potential for DS6?
How unhappy is he?
Are there any other choices?

All things being equal, I'm a big fan of avoiding unescessary upheaval.

If you don't know what would be best, spend some time observing in each possible recieving classroom. An hours of direct observation is worth 2 thousand words.

LOL - Are you in the police service? If not, you'd be great. Or perhaps a glamourous private detective?

The two schools are about 10 mins apart, and there aren't really any other choices. I thought another might have been, but it apparently focusses completely on program differentiation as its GT approach - they try to avoid ability grouping for some unfathomable reason. And of course that's just what we're looking for. Another school that has a great reputation is unfortunately one of the most expensive in the city, so out of the picture.

I've visited the school in question, and difference in the children and what they were doing was immediately obvious. And I think he may be quite unhappy - if the aggression issues we've had are related to inadequate challenge and the wrong peer group, as I think they might be. But of course I'm not entirely sure. I might call the school again and see if they can make any estimate of how long a wait we might have for DS4.

Oh Gratified, now I feel too easily daunted. Which I probably am at the moment. I'll discuss more with DH and see what he thinks.

What were the unexpected benefits?
