We are not in the US and have no experience of the SAT or ACT, or the US college admission system but I was looking at online courses with TIP and CTY etc for our 9yr old. I am hoping someone could explain how "grade level" is applied if a child is home schooled, accelerated, not from the US, etc? Is a appropriate "grade" applied for the purpose of interpreting results of the testing based on age and US school age norms?

And related question regarding courses with TIP, CTY etc. which seem to be grouped by grade. Again how does "grade" work if your child is already accelerated, subject accelerated, has no clear grade due to homeschool or different international standards?

I’m not sure what international testing requirements are but in the US we have the option of taking SCAT at that age. The full SAT is only required later, for 8th grade maybe? My nine year and eleven year old both took SCAT earlier this year. It is a much more approachable test and I would recommend it if you just want to qualify for classes.

Another consideration is the definition of “grade level.” While standardized tests may use this team, it’s pretty clear that grade level varies widely depending on area and specific school, at least in the US. The common core was an attempt to standardize things but it’s clear there are huge variations.
