Does anyone know much about highly sensitive persons? I heard about it for the first time this week and thought it sounds like we might have a few in our house.

Sensitive in what way? With respect to sensory processing, capacity for empathy and perspective taking, emotional responses to ideas and experiences, or something else?

Dubsys, is this what you are referring to? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highly_sensitive_person

I really appreciated the book The Highly Sensitive Child. Made me understand more about my kids, myself, my childhood. I related to it far more than I expected.

Sorry I should have been a bit clearer. Yes I was referring to the actual term "highly sensitive person" as described in the Wikipedia link. I think it seems to apply to me and my children. I thought maybe exploring it more might help me understand my own and my children's sensitivity as well as maybe explain to DH why I get upset so easily. But I had never heard of it before, maybe most people have not.

I will check out that book long cut.

I know you posted this a while ago, but could the issue potentially be overexcitabilities? Have a look at this article: http://giftedkids.about.com/od/gifted101/a/overexcite.htm DS6 exhibits all of those. In fact, that is the main reason we're going to have him tested in a few months.

On the flip side, as I finally come to better understand DS, I have flung open a window on understanding DH. Apples and trees and such.

Ah, the silver linings our kiddos bring us,
Sue
