I thought I had read years ago about scholarships from the psat being based partly on what school codes are entered (what colleges a student might attend) - that is, if there are codes entered they can be awarded to that school, but if not, the scholarship might not get awarded. typing this now, it sounds strange, so it's probably just my bad memory. can someone confirm or deny anything of this sort for me? I went here http://www.nationalmerit.org/faq_competition.php#QA1 and don't see anything about it.
thanks

Never heard of anything like that. The only scholarship I know about is National Merit (NMSQT) and at the stage of taking the PSAT it isn't relevant that I know of. It's possible it might matter at the apply for National Merit finalist stage.

IF you look at http://www.nationalmerit.org/Merit_R&I_Leaflet.pdf which are the instruction for filling out the FINALIST paperwork it does say that college choices can affect the outcome. This is only after getting a good enough score to qualify on the PSAT.

Scroll way down to a chart in the section on scholarships.
"College-Sponsored Merit Scholarships
Finalists who plan to attend a sponsor college and have informed NMSC that the sponsor college is their first choice"
There are also corporate scholarships if your parent works for one of the participating companies.
