I received a letter from the school. DD9, in 4th grade has FINALY been identified as 'gifted and talented'...

But it doesn't matter! They have already been treating her as as a TAG student and this will get her nothing but a spot on the list. At least I can stop thinking I'm crazy. Maybe the ID will help her get a scholarship to one of the private schools around here. Maybe it will be good for something.

I have been asked to attend a planning and placement team meeting with other parents of newly identified gifted kids. Hopefully I will feel a little better after that. If anything, it will be nice to see who the 'others' are!
"While identification is mandatory, programming is not. School districts are not required to provide programming for children identified as gifted and talented. 19 years ago, the Middle school began the implementation of a formalized talent development program and school-wide enrichment model. Through both our talent development teacher and classroom teachers, students are provided with differentiated lessons and enrichment activities in the classroom."

This is what already happens. It is not enough. I wonder if they will entertain acceleration at this meeting.

Hmm
