Dear Ones,
I just saw this new resource to help families and teacher who are trying to talk to school admins about meeting children's needs through Math subject acceleration.

http://www.idealsolutionsmath.com/Content/For-Parents.aspx

It's from Belin-Blank at University of Iowa, and they are a good bunch.

I wish we had this for other subjects as well!

I have not used Ideal Solutions yet, but since one of the authors of this program is Susan Assouline, parents interested in the program may also be interested in the "Developing Math Talent" book she co-authored which make recommendations based on EXPLORE test results and also the thread http://giftedissues.davidsongifted....d_honesty_EXPLORE_scores.html#Post102234 .
Developing Math Talent is a great book, and Belin Blank is a great resource.

That being said, be prepared for a school to refuse to consider information from them just as they may not pay attention to SCAT or Explore scores.

thanks Grinity.

Always be prepared for that! But for 50$ it seems like a relatively inexpensive way to bring the impersonal expertise of a non-parent 'to the table.'

I sent an email and got this response:

Quote
IDEAL Solutions for Math Acceleration uses test scores and demographic information to generate an individualized report that includes specific skills that a student has mastered, as well as those skills a student has yet to master. This can give educators a good idea of where those gaps might be, as well as an overall idea of what placement might be best for the student within the context of his or her schools particular curriculum.

Thank you for your interest in IDEAL Solutions for Math Acceleration, and please let me know if you have any other questions!

Best,

I don't pretend to understand what they are talking about, but am curious to see how this actually works.
