Today is the day, dd's school is going to review her trial skip period and decide want to do for the rest of this year and next. It should be a no brainer, but it seems like these meetings and doubts are never going to end. I see a happy kid, making friends, welcomed and accepted by her new class(this is new), making eye contact with teachers and peers (this is also new), producing more written output than ever before, with suddenly legible handwriting, doing more work on projects than is asked of her, and sleeping soundly at night. She does forget to bring homework home sometimes, so it is sometimes late. She is still catching up on cursive and typing with the older kids. Since she wasn't doing either in December, I don't see why its a big deal as long as she is showing lots of improvement. We haven't been invited to this meeting and I'm feeling very pregnant and worried about everything. I cannot wait until today is over.

good luck!

What grade is she skipping?

I am curious why you would not be invited to the meeting?

I would think they would want you at the meeting too, so they could get your input. I hope it goes well though.

When are you due? Pregnant hormones are never fun, but especially not when you have anything extra to worry about.

She'll hopefully be skipping the rest of 3rd.

Maybe we weren't invited to the meeting because I'm due any time and they are trying to be nice? Or maybe its because we had to go over some people's heads and I don't think they are happy about it. There are certainly some 2E issues and its a private school, so they they really need to decide if its worth it for them to meet her needs. I know they like my dd, but she is inconvenient.

good luck!

Oh, I always get edgy about "you're not invited" meetings like that.

Best wishes for a good outcome today. smile

LOL - to all the world's inconvenient children - a toast!
I can't believe the poor timing! Go scrub something - I predict they will be fine with the skip, and if I'm wrong, we can deal with it later.

It might help for you to send a brief email to the meeting filling them in on the positive changes you see, just like the above post, maybe in bullet form?

Then go scrub something.
Love and More Love,
Grinity - do you have a name and a 'pseudonym' picked out?

I, too, have well liked inconvenient children. My older dd has become less inconvenient post-acceleration but I suspect that my dd10 continues to be an inconvenience. She seems to be 2e as well which is easy for schools to ignore and pretend that neither exceptionality exists.

Thanks for the well wishes. I love my inconvenient kid. No news yet... We tried to provide the school with feedback and were told no thanks. I'd scrub something, except I'm on bed rest for 3 more weeks.

Love it!
Good luck Chrys, get some sleep while you can. If you can.

Good luck; hope it goes well.

And...don't go signing any re-enrollment agreements or giving them any checks just yet. You can always smile sweetly and say, "Well, we'd like to re-enroll, but some details need to be nailed down first...."

Ug! and double Ug! Any tangled yarn to untangle? I'll teach you how to crochet if you like...
Have you heard yet?

No official news.

DD said she had to double up on the standardized tests yesterday - it just so happens they are testing this week. They are testing her with her "new trial" grade which is very promising. But, it also sounds like they might be previewing her answers before they send them off to be scored.

I also heard that the psych who tested her two years ago was at the meeting. I would have thought we would have had to consent to that... Its not like the school has honored the accommodations from our last meeting with him. If I had know they were going to pull in a psych to consult with, I would have insisted on Dr Ed.

Hopefully, the school is just trying to figure out how to have her in middle school and elementary school next year and establishing a real IEP for her. (not that they legally have to honor it...) This will be the third time we have refused to sign a renewal contract until we can have a written copy of her school schedule for the following year. If this all works out, she'll only be straddling two grades, instead of three.

We are having a sunny 60 degree day today and I'm going to do some sewing...
