I thought I would start a new post for great news!!

We had a meeting at my dd's school this morning and we learned that the school will be (forgive me if I word this incorrectly as I am not technologically gifted) implementing one on one laptops for the entire school (1st thru 8th grade) together with whiteboards. Our kids will be able to study subjects as deep and advanced as their hearts desire. They will have choices to explore subjects they are interested in!!

I cannot wait to learn more about this program....

Wow, sounds great. Our school has purchased laptops each year. Right now they have one laptop per child for a grade and grades rotate turns. The goal would be for all children to have a laptop at their disposal the whole day.
I imagine this will be the trend that we will see in the short term for more progressive thinking school administrators.
Progress is good!

I am so excited!! Especially with the whiteboards. My daughter used one in her distance education math course last year.

The way they were discribing how the science courses might be enhanced made me want to go back to school!! Also, the headmaster was very excited about allowing children to explore subjects they were passionate about at quite a different level!!

Wow! It sure sounds amazing!

How are they going to implement this differentiation of levels? Can you explain it?

I'm very intrigued!

This is all new to me still. Perhaps some one who is learned in this subject can enlighten us.

The school already allows the higher grades (middle school) a LEAP day where they choose the subjects they pursue. I believe this will make it easier for them to do distance education on greater depth.

The headmaster described a geography lesson where the class can easily flow from learning about a continent to switching to a single country to a small community in response to the children's interest.

I will keep you guys posted as I learn more.

That sounds fantastic! Are you at a private or public school? I know a couple private schools around here that does something similar at the middle school level and it does sound really great.

Definitely let us know how it goes!

Hi Kimck,

My dd school is an independent school (private but not for profit).
