Well, DC is in to week 2 of the new grade accel and things are going well! Socially, it's GREAT too! Teachers are wonderful on keeping me updated, kids are fine with it too. DC is Still getting a few questions about what grade DC was in last yr. but found it extremely helpful to prep DC with a response that works for all situations and no explaining has to be done. Also found parents have backed off me tremendously (feeling that word about the accel spread like wild fire, as did my response that I am not really allowed to discuss details of it) so no one else has bothered to ask how it came about, etc! A slow leak over the summer allowed the shock and awe of it to die down over the summer break (never been done at the school before so everyone was shocked by it apparently. grin

Well, DC was concieved under some very unusual circumstances, part of a top secrete project, but I'm really not supposed to talk about.

Glad to hear about the happy social benifits too!

haha! Yeah, but it sure shuts them up smile. I'm like... Yah, I'd love to discuss it... but then.....

I find it only leads to MORE AND MORE AND MORE questions, where this way.... they stop right away and it eliminates the interrigation I was getting wink

So glad for you and DC that things are going well. Could you elaborate (if you are allowed to discuss it smile ) a bit on your response and also the questions you have received? Our DC is subject accel 2 years in math and it is also an almost unheard of thing here (still in shock it is actually happening) and we plan on not talking about it as much as possible. But, inevitably someone will find out - and I want to prepare for it.

Also, I want to prepare our child for the questions that will arrive - how did you do so.

I would love to hear from others who have BTDT!

Oh, do share!

I think DD7 has just said "I skipped a grade," but she's only into 3rd, so the kids haven't been so curious as to the details.

Well, basically, most of the questions have been... weren't you in such and such a grade last year? DC says, yes. then they all ask the SAME THING... why are you in here now? With a shrug of the shoulders, replies, "I don't know, because the principal told me to!" That seems to work REALLY well and then the kids shrug their shoulders like.. OK, then walk away! DD says "Mom, the kids say EXACTLY what you said they would! I tell them exactly what you said and that's all they say! You were right!" See.... Ol' Mom isn't so clueless, is she wink If some REALLY persist and they keep asking and asking, after giving teh same response, I told her to change the subject and talk about something else and that works well too! Most of the time, the first response has been great though!

BWHAHAH!!

DW will love this.

Glad things are working out.

The director of Mr W's school dealt with this another way. She has moved all of Mr W's age peers out to other classes. He is now by himself with the next new batch of toddlers and will move to the 4-5 year old class week after next - and will not share a class with any of his other age peers' siblings. Hopefully this will prevent any issues with any parents.

( Mr W already gets some funny looks as he knows DW's and my passwords and will type them and operate the computer when we sign him in. )
