I am kicking myself for not checking it before mad

The doctor has given us a spray to use for a month or so until the liquid behind the timpanos (sp?) is disolved.

I think this explains the problems she had with phonetics.

Chronic ear fluid? That sounds very familiar, DS6 had it when he was 2 thanks to enlarged adenoids. It really explained why we had such a hard time understanding what he was saying. The poor kid couldn't hear sounds clearly. He eventually ended up with ear tubes and had his adenoids removed.

I hope the fluid resolves on its own.

It will definitely explain the problem with phonetics! At least you know now, don't go blaming yourself as children manage to "hide" it quite well by compensating. My DS6 had grommets (tubes) put in his ears when he was 4 and they worked wonders - his ears were very blocked up and his hearing was very bad, we didn't notice that the poor child had been lip-reading for quite a while. The audiologist was very impressed at how he had "hidden" his hearing loss. The tubes fell out about 18 months later and all has been fine since then. Hopefully your experience will be straightforward like ours.

Ah Isa!
I hope this works out, quickly and easily!

Wow, Isa - I hope that the treatment works quickly and easily. That would be great it that is the answer to the phonetics problems! (It certainly would make sense, wouldn't it?)

Don't kick too hard! smile
We had full blown infections to alert us, they are very obvious - the screaming in the middle of the night is a real eye-opener. I understand the fluid is much more subtle to figure out anything is going on - is that correct?

She keeps repeating 'what did you say?' but we thought she was not paying attention. As well, when she is interested she can 'hear' (or maybe guess?) very well...

I wonder whether this explains why she sings vert bad despite being enthusiastic about it wink
