My 20 month old is starting to recognize letters, and I suspect that he's either gifted or is at least going to be ahead of his peers.

And my first thought was, "Oh no, not again."
Not irrational at all!

I recall James Webb, PhD, author of many books on giftedness, founder of SENG and Great Potential Press, describing gifted kids as having an "intense" experience and parents of gifted children and having an "exhausting" experience.

Thinking of how early parents may notice signs of giftedness (and departure from what is typical) brought to mind this famous literary quote.
Intense and exhausting is right. I remember the psychologist who did DD's assessment coming out after the WISC and jokingly saying something to the effect of, "You all are in for a ride."
