New here. Consider myself lucky to found this forum at the apt time.

DD8.3(2nd grade) has been given a choice to skip 3rd grade after IQ & achievement testing. First generation immigrants here with little knowledge about American schooling. DD is smart with good social skills. It is her emotional intensity which scares me. Need to convince myself that I do not miss anything in the bigger picture. Hence asking for help in this wonderful board. Could you please let me know if there is anything to think about before we make the jump? DD is all for it.

Meanwhile, I'm educating myself about WISC testing. My DD has 'very superior' scores with FSIQ three SD above the mean. (Edited scores for privacy). I'm trying to make sense of all the terms. Also her lowest scaled scores are coding & comprehension with 13 each and picture concepts with 14. Are these three related in any way or indicate some weakness? Just wondering how I should interpret it.

I would appreciate any input at this confusing time. Thanks.

'very superior' means at least 2 standard deviations above average (score at least 130 on a scale with mean 100, standard deviation 15). It also means top (approx) 2.5%

which is usually what it takes to be classified "gifted".

Those scores are not scattered at all. They are very even, compared to most examples you see here.

I'm sure your DD can handle a 1 grade skip academically.

Thank you 22B. I gathered more information from this forum and internet and also spoke to the school psychologist who tested DD. Your link was very helpful. Appreciate it.

Thanks 22B. The link was very useful. Gathered much more information now. Wrote a reply earlier too. But it did not appear. Still finding my way here.
