DD10's winter conferences are scheduled for next week. DD is in a 5th grade gifted center program class. Overall, this year has been going very well. My only concern is that the type of writing work DD brings home always seems to be the same format and she seems to be able to complete it without much effort. She just seems to be on auto-pilot.

In preparation for conferences, I asked her to evaluate her year so far. She gushed about everything except writing. She responded that they don't do anything creative. She gave me some examples of creative writing projects/reading responses that she got to do last year. Any suggestions how I politely ask the teacher to consider changing things up a bit?

Sandwich approach: Start with the good stuff, squeeze in the request for more creative writing (include some examples that DD liked from last year), and end with more good stuff.
