My son is 8 years old and is working on a 7th grade level. I am looking into a possible enrollment into EPGY Online High School. Even through he is working so far ahead I don't think he is ready for this level for a year or two. Mainly b/c of his writing skills really need to improve.

So, we are thinking at about age 10 or 11 years old enrolling him. Does anyone have a child in this school? If so, does your child like it? If you could tell me more about your experience with this school.

    Thank you

We haven't done the high school but my kids did try the math program through their school. My kids (DD8 and DD10) both hated the program for what I will call aesthetic reasons. The program was not visually interesting and the man who lectured had a dry, droning voice. You might ask if you could see a sample before you sign up.

LOL! Knute, nobody likes the Poor ole EPGY man! Still, if you can bear with it, the program is a solid one.

EPGY online is supposed to very rigorous. I have to say that the reviews thus far (the program is only a few years old) are mixed. Parents say there is a LOT of homework, and some classes are excellent, while others are just adequate. The lack of community has also been mentioned as a drawback.

I am sure that it works well for some families, but I have crossed it off the possibility list for my kids.

My boys are doing EPGY at the grade 1 and grade 3 level, and both courses have the same narrator, an elderly man. Listening to one of the videos at http://suppes-corpus.stanford.edu/lectures.html , it's clear that the EPGY narrator is the same man, Stanford professor emeritus Patrick Suppes, who has been working on computerized instruction since the 1960s. My boys have not complained about the aesthetics of the program, and I am pleased that a pioneering researcher continues to play an important role in the program.
