My son's Destination ImagiNation team qualified for state a few weeks ago, but we didn't expect them to decide to go due to a lack of funds and the relatively young age of the kiddos. Well, a poll was taken among the parents and most everyone decided to go and just make their own way up to Denver. The school will pay for the registration fee and a room for the coaches for one night. So off we go, this Friday!

Our team has one extra opportunity to go to nationals out of this, too. It seems that the Dairy Council is a major sponsor, and they drew a certain number of names out of a hat for an extra competition--the winner of that gets to go to nationals along with the regular winners, and the Dairy Council will give that team $3500 to go! We were one of the teams chosen to compete for that--a good one to win, if we had to choose, and less competition for it too!

Of course, if we actually win something, we'll have to go into massive fundraising mode and come up with something like $15,000 to get the whole team there....eek!

Anybody else going to be at the state tournament in Denver next weekend? smile

What challenge are your kids doing? GS10's team is doing DIrect DIposit, and we'll be heading to Mt Vernon, Ohio, next Saturday.

Wouldn't it be fun to meet at the Global?

Congrats!! We did a spaghetti dinner with a cake walk to raise funds. We are also hitting all the local events in town with raffles. I wish you guys the best of luck.

We already had our local competition, DS's team came in 3rd. They went over the time limit on the instant challenge. They also did DIrect DIposit.

Maybe next year they will make to global.

Wow, everybody's doing Direct DIposit here! That's what our team did, too. They got second in the regional tournament, but I see that the first place team in that challenge is not in the list of competition at state. They actually had a pretty low score because they went over the time limit, but it was still good enough for second. They've been doing really well in practice, so hopefully it'll be even better this time! Their catapult broke during the competition and they had to wing it, too, so they held up really well.

We've got some ideas to put into motion if they qualify at state--just have to be fast!

Here's a website that gives fund raising ideas. http://www.fundraising-ideas.org/DIY/

A catapult sounds cool. Our team did a sling shot thing.

    Congratulations to your team, Nautigal!

I think competitions have been some of the most valuable educational experiences I've witnessed. Hope it goes well!

Our team is a bit disappointed. They delivered all but one object in the containers, & had at least one object in every container. They thought they'd earned double points, until they found out one of the boxes was placed on the wrong grid. So, we took 3rd, enough to earn a trophy, but just missed earning the chance to go to global.

Oh, man, you guys did good!

We don't have to worry about any fundraising, as we got 9th place. I haven't seen the scores on the Instant Challenge, but they did what we considered really well on the regular challenge--28 of 30 points on story, 28.25 and 28 out of 30 and 30 on side trips, and a whopping 7.92 out of the 672 points on the main section. Hey, they got to state with zero in that box, so almost 8 points was huge! smile The team felt they did really well on the Instant Challenge, too. They were all pretty sure they stunk on the Dairy Challenge, so we knew that probably didn't go well. We're all quite happy with that and feel no pain on not going to Knoxville!

    How'd everybody else do?
