Well the results are in and what a relief. Is it normal to still have doubts that you are doing the right thing even at this stage?!

Sorry about being so cryptic and using slang.

Uni = University. He has just completed his first year of university (part time)

The question was a bit rhetorical. In other words deep down you know you are doing the right the thing because he is happy and thats what counts, but then you worry that its not too much pressure (school, acceleration + university). They are his course results - Bachelor of Science majoring in Mathematics and Applied Physics.

Great news! Quick question: why is he still in school if he's enrolled at uni? Is that his decision, or is the university requiring it? I started uni at 16, but went full-time - couldn't get out of school fast enough really - so I'm curious.

DS did not want to be grade skipped so chose subject acceleration instead, which is how we ended up with this particular pattern of study. He cannot complete high school without satisfying the Board of Studies requirements across all chosen subject areas at Yr12 level. You are required to have a minimum of 10 units (most subjects are worth 2 units) to attain your Higher School certificate. Unless for example you are a mature age student, as a school leaver you cannot enter university without a Higher School Certificate and the accompanying ATAR (Australian Tertiary Assessment Rank).

At present DS has completed Yr12 maths (4 units) 2008, has just commenced Yr12 Physics and will commence Yr11 English and Chemistry after Christmas. 3 years left at school without maths wasn't an option so the school organised his enrolment at university. As crazy as it seems that he is already enrolled at university it still doesn't exempt him from his obligations to the Board of Studies.

    I hope this makes sense!

No, it doesn't make sense, but that's the government's fault, not yours. wink

    Ha, so true.

From the sounds of a large number of the posts in this forum it would seem most of us are up against this in one form or other. eek
