My son's school will allow him to do 5th grade Math in 3rd Grade. He will need to listen to the 3rd Grade Class Math instruction for 5 mins. This doesn't sound so terrible, but if they knew he already mastered the information I think he could skip this and use his time better. The teacher is concerned he needs to do this so he will do well on the IOWA. IOWA is the standardized tests they take at school every year. I was wondering if anyone knows about pretesting for IOWA?

Last year is the few science topics he knew it all already too. How can we find out what he knows before he is taught the subject?

My 3rd grader scored 9th Grade level on the Woodcock Johnson Achievement test but I'm thinking that does not mean he knows everything a 9th grader knows.

You can order prep test books which have a scaled down sample test in the back. You can look at this link to look at sample pages for the ITBS.
