DS (now a rising jr) attended state HOBY leadership seminar this past weekend. He enjoyed guest speakers (government, business, misc organizations, community leaders, etc.) and met many students from around the state. The high school paid for the seminar for the sophomore who wrote the best essay. This might be something for rising sophomores, if your son or daughter is interested in that. They also offer a World HOBY conference in DC at Georgetown at a much lower (half) cost than the NYLC programs. If you're interested see www.hoby.org

I have never heard about it. It is nice that the school paid for him as this things can be pricey.
We are still getting tons of mail from the National Youth Leadership Forum and others affiliated. We have been ignoring it from the beginning but I am saddened at some families/kids at our school that are going to the extremes to send the kid to D.C. for one of those.
