I'm new here and have tried to get rid of the flashing envelope and just can't. I'm pretty sure it has to do with private messaging, but I've clicked it and nothing - there are no messages. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong or is it a glitch? It's rather annoying to have that thing constantly blinking at me.

    Thanks.

    Hi Jdax3,
I notified the moderator, and he'll get in touch with you within a few days and fix it. Just keep checking the private messages every day and it should be fixed soon.

    Smiles,
    Grinity

Hi JDAX - I just sent you a private message. We can correspond over that and try to troubleshoot this issue. Thanks!

If you find a solution and don't mind sharing it here, I'd appreciate it. I have the same flashing envelope - and figure others might as well.

    Thanks!

Yes, I do too, but I have grown used to it and don't really notice it much any more.

Ditto. I just ignore it, now. I check every once in a while to make sure that there really isn't a message for me. I think I might faint away, if I ever open it and find a message. laugh

OH! I just checked it. I hadn't bothered for over a week and there *are* messages for me. shocked

I managed not to faint, though! wink

ETA: Icon is still blinking, even after checking/reading messages. Is it supposed to stop once the messages have been read? I don't mind it blinking, I'm used to it. I'm just curious.

Maybe it's PMS (private message syndrome). My envelope has had this problem lately too.

Guess I'll join in as well. My envelope has always been flashing, but I've never received a PM, even though one person said they had sent me one.

Hi everyone - since this issue seems to be coming up a lot, the first thing I would do is to delete your cookies and temporary internet files. For those using Internet Explorer, this can be done by clicking "Delete Browsing History" under "Tools" on the top dropdown. I believe it is under "Tools" on the top dropdown for Firefox users as well. As always, please let me know if I can be of any assistance for this or any other issue.

    Best,
    Mark

Has anyone found a solution to this? I really can't stand flashing of any kind on my screen - headache trigger. I cleared the history as suggested and that didn't help.

I'd also appreciate if there was a way to set preferences so there wouldn't be a flashing flame on the hot threads.

I just joined and I have the flashing envelope too (and no PMs). I have not had this happen on other message boards-it is kind of odd!

I sent Mark D. a private message after clearing cookies/history and the problem was soon fixed.

No, the quick fix is to ignore it.. it's been broken since 2009… wink

If you want to know if someone sends you a private message (which you can't tell since the envelope *always* blinks), you can set your preferences to email you when someone sends you a private message. That's the only work around I've found.

Actually, you can go and try what the others did… clear your cookies/history and email Mark D and see if he can fix it. I've just learned to ignore it, since I joined in in 2014 and my envelope has always blinked.

I would love it if it could be fixed too... I've been trying to ignore it but am not having a great deal of success in that regard... smile
