Can those of you who have been through the process tell me how long it takes to find out whether or not your child has been accepted? My DS application was submitted for the Jan 15 review period. Do they notify you via e-mail or snail mail?

It was snail mail and for us it was about 3 weeks after the deadline to submit. Most people find out about a month after the deadline so for Jan 15th you will probably know by Feb 15th.

I applied for dd at the end of June (didn't get it in by the 15th) and received acceptance notice on Aug. 29th. So it was a long wait!

    Good luck!

At least 3 weeks. Our LOA was dated on the 3rd of the next month so...if you tried for the 1/15 deadline, after the 3rd of February...
We didn't get an email welcome until a few weeks after we received our letter. In fact, the LOA asks for you to email them, if my memory holds...

    Good luck!

It took five weeks after the deadline for us. Seemed like 5 years to me!

Shari, not to put your hopes high but we applied in January last year and got the acceptance letter by the end of January. Yes, it was that fast for us. May be January is less crazy month than others.

    E-mail update? That's really nice.

    Good luck

We submitted the application just before the 15 of July last year. We found out through the mail a few days before the 15th of August. I know the wait can be unbearable, especially the closer it gets to the 15th!!! At least, for me, it was summer and we had so much going on I was able to keep busy, otherwise I would have obsessed on it (I think I did anyway)!!! HaHa

    Good luck,

    Laura

We got bumped for an extra month too ... I mailed it from the Midwest on the 12th and it didn't get there on time, so I had to wait almost two full months! I almost think that was better, since I kind of *had* to put it out of mind.

Won't say I wasn't getting pretty eager as the time got closer ... crazy

I submitted in December but they didn't review applications in December, so I feel like I've been waiting forever already. *sigh*

    Congrats!!
I am jealous of the e-mail reponse. Just a few days quicker than the snail-mail response. Plus you don't even have to go outside. smile

    G3,

After I finished jumping for joy and posting on here, I suffered a huge letdown in the realization that there wasn't anyone to celebrate with. I wanted to call everyone! But no one would understand. I took my entire family out to dinner last night to celebrate, even though for the most part they didn't understand it either. They did however thank my DS6 for whatever it was that he did that got them dinner out!

Yeah, those free scams from well-known nonprofits are always good to look out for.

    <smirk>

I'm glad you risked it, Dottie! grin
