I am new to this forum and have enjoyed reading the posts. We are considering the Long Island School for the Gifted for our daughter and are hoping that someone on this forum has some information on this school. We have been to the website and plan to visit in January ( they do not show the school before the new year), but we were hoping that someone on this board has a child in the school and can give us some insight. Thanks in advance!

I do not know the school but I am working on a gifted conference with someone who's daughter went there and they were very happy with it.

I don't have any specific advice, but in general -

Go and listen, and be sure to observe. Any private school will be a good fit for some and a poor fit for others. Try to watch the teachers in action, and see if any of the kids are doing things that your daughter is doing.

Find out what happens money-wise, if things don't work out,

    How old is your daughter?

    Good Luck

    Hi,

I don't know the Long Island school but we placed our daughter (16) in a gifted school this year after many mishaps in the traditional system. What we looked at was the teachers' personalities and backgrounds, how they relate to the students, and how the students get on with the teachers and their peers. We found that gifted people (teachers and students) form very strong and animated bonds once they find each other, as long as the environment is healthy. We absolutely love what that has done for our daughter - she's found not only a school but another home.

Of course, we looked at the curriculum too, but we've found that as long as our DD is settled, the work simply follows anyway.
