ConnectingDots - She cannot take the EXPLORE this year, because of a scheduling conflict. She took it in 3rd grade, though, and was above the 80th percentile among the 8th graders (she would have qualified for DYS, at the time, as a 4th grader, even though she was a 3rd grader). She almost hit the ceiling on one of the four sections.

Her school has seen the scores.

Drat re: scheduling conflict. I wonder about any of the other talent search assessments.

What the heck did the school say about her earlier scores?! Do they not get what it means? At a minimum, she should qualify for single subject acceleration on the areas she did especially well in...

I'm assuming this is a public school. If so, are there higher levels to which you can appeal?

Does she still qualify as DYS?

BTW, I'm over here shaking my head in anger at your wrong-minded school personnel. You have my empathy. We wasted a year and thousands of dollars on a private school that was supposed to be "so challenging." Yeah, right.

She is a DYS (qualified in IQ and EXPLORE). The school was initially very helpful until we actually asked for something. Then they became timid and did nothing. That is a long, frustrating story. She has had some great teachers, one that really got her, but there has been no consistency. I strongly suspect she needs subject acceleration, if not grade acceleration. All of her subtest scores were high on the EXPLORE, but one was just crazy-high. We finally started the online course I mentioned after the school DID NOTHING. The course is challenging. DD has a love-hate relationship with the course - she is adamant that she wants to keep taking it, but she HATES when the homework is due (she is having to learn some time management here, which she has not yet otherwise needed, and is not yet good at).
