Wow Michaela - I can see why you feel the need to vent! What you are describing - I can't even imagine how frustrating that would be! And how heartbreaking to have to send your child to that environment where he is not being supported.
We are also in Ontario, but have not experienced this level of stone-walling. I now feel super lucky and thankful for the staff at our school - they have gone out of their way to suggest and implement accommodations for both my kids - one with and one without an IEP. Mind you - implementation has been easier this year than last due to different teachers. It seems that so much is dependent on the teachers and principals and how much they 'get it'.
But the suggestion that teacher reminders and a safety plan would somehow take away from other students - that just floors me.
I am wondering if you know about the ABC Ontario message board? Perhaps someone there will have ideas as to how you can improve the situation...
