Based on my experience working with kids and the schools as an OT, I would LOVE to see much more education for teachers on how to observe, analyze and interpret behaviors. I am so tired of evaluating kids in OT and hearing the parents tell me how the teachers view them as "behavior problems." All behavior tells us something. Our job as parents, teachers, etc is to figure out what the child is telling us - what do they need that they AREN'T getting? That's why they are doing the "problem behaviors." They are trying to communicate something they either can't understand themselves or are unable to articulate. We (the collective "we") let down every child who is simply brushed off as a "behavior problem." It is the biggest injustice of the educational system, if you ask me.
