    GG -
Have you ever looked at the "6+1 Writing Traits" book? Its a way to talk about writing and reading from the prespective of "how did the author get that effect." It's also a great read. I don't think you will be able to get the school involved, but I think it's worth looking at for the kind of informal afterschooling that occurs in the nooks and crannies of the day if you are ready for them.

    LD,

Ugh, how frustrating. That is exactly the type of reaction we got at the school where DD6 started the year--and why we transferred her to a different school after three weeks. One of the best things we ever did for her. I'm sure you will say the same about homeschooling your son. Kudos to you for making that decision. Is he excited about homeschooling?

    Trinity,

No, I haven't seen it--I remember you or someone mentioned it before and I was intending to look for it. Thanks for the reminder! I'm actually writing it down on paper this time, so I remember to get it. :-)

Trinity mentioned it and I started using it with Mite. I think that's one reason his sentences have become more interesting....like he uses the word "yet" more. chuckle.

Here's a link where the traits are synopsized...http://www.sheboyganfalls.k12.wi.us/staff/dehogue/FSSH/6_trait.htm

This link uses the traits and has some lesson plan ideas...http://writingfix.org/Traits.htm
