OK . . . this post doesn't require a reply. I just need a place to put this out into the universe. . .

DD9 who is very frustrated with her language arts is in the "top" reading group. They have spent the last EIGHT weeks reading one novel and they still haven't finished it! Eight weeks. Eight weeks on a book that she read more than a year ago on her own and finished in a couple of hours. 140 pages with pictures.

They are giving her extensions and to be fair they don't work on it every day, but still . . . EIGHT weeks. Three more chapters to go!

    Shudder . . . Band head against wall . . . repeat.

I know how you feel. DS6 is apparently in the top reading group in second grade, and they've spent all year on "The Enormous Egg", not exactly the densest tome ever written.

Hmm, looks like a fun book!

Might take Mr W three hours in one setting, but he would certainly be done in two days with all the other things he is into.

LoL. Sounds a bit like my son's classroom. The teacher has been reading Hugo to them... a big novel to be sure, but I think they've been doing this one book all school year! Apparently DS thought it was interesting, so he borrowed the book from her a couple of times during free reading and finished the whole thing back in like Nov. Thankfully he still enjoys being read to and will sit for reading time.
