I had a meeting with DS7's teacher and the school principal today. This year's teacher has been trying her best to accomodate DS7 this year. It's not perfect but it's much better than last year when DS7 was in K for the mornings and 1st grade for the afternoons with teachers who were trying to prove that he wasn't all that smart. This teacher has at least admitted that DS7 is very smart and unlike any child she has eer worked with.

So far DS7 is pretesting for math and spelling every two weeks (always passes) and working on some independent math and reading projects while the other kids are working. He still complains that it is not fair that he doesn't get to learn but for the most part is content and his behavior has not been a huge issue.

Today's meeting was about looking forward to next year and the principal thinks that another skip to 4th grade might work better for DS7 than 3rd grade. He doesn't turn 8 until December so he will be up to 2 years younger than his classmates. The best part of the meeting was when the principal agreed that we can't hold DS7 back just because of things that will happen years from now.

Over the next few months DS7 will be invited to do some activites with the current 3rd graders. We don't want to move him to 3rd grade right now because we feel DS7 has a good relationship with his current teacher and none of the 3rd grade teachers is really a good match for him.

I can't believe that I just attended a positive public school meeting for DS7. WOW!
