I will say that aside from the harm issue--which I guess I took as more anecdotal than "researched" anyway--it doesn't seem drastically different from the way I interpreted the original factoid. I mean, I took the questionable quote to mean that "drill and kill" once the child has already learned the material is bad, not that practice and repetition are ALWAYS bad for a GT kid. (If you ever heard me on the clarinet in 7th grade, you'd have all the evidence you needed of that fact! wink )

Perhaps I gave the author at issue more credit with my interpretation than I should have, however...

FWIW, I still think we want to discourage repetition of already-mastered material. I don't think a child's loss of interest in a subject should be underestimated as a problem! The surprisingly high high-school dropout rate of GT kids would certainly indicate otherwise!
