I chose a partner instead of a career. By that, I mean the number one criteria on my life-partner list was that the person would need to be fine with the fact that I can't stick at anything for more than a few years, and that I would spend my whole adult life rotating in and out of different studies, jobs, entrepreneurial endeavours, hobbies, etc. I needed someone who wouldn't judge me for that, and who had a solid enough career/background themselves that we wouldn't need to rely on me for income. Not sure I would recommend the same for my daughter, but if she turns out the have the same stick-ability issues that I do, maybe I will...
