I skimmed through some of the book recommendations and I'm not sure if I missed what I'm looking for. DD is 10 and has read most of the popular young adult fiction series in the genres she enjoys (Hunger Games and Slated are examples of favorites she's read over and over). I'm running out of options without sexual content, which she is not ready for. I'm not really concerned about suspense/violence since her contextual perspective is mature. She is not interested in much classical literature, other than Shakespeare, which she loves to parody. I think what she craves is the thought provoking content. I'm trying to think outside the box and look for some options outside of YA fiction. She does read a lot of science based nonfiction but before bed and when she's relaxing she prefers a narrative style best, so I'm thinking maybe poetry or biographies? Or some history? She would be thrilled with humor that isn't too childish (but relatively clean might be tricky). She has recently become passionate about politics and social issues. I personally don't care to read much about politics because everything seems so polarized, it just gets me all worked up and angry, so I wouldn't know where to start to find something for her. Any suggestions?
