My SAT experience is also decades old, but I seem to recall that I took it four times, annually from age 11 until I matriculated into college. I did not apply to the likes of MIT, as I wasn't equipped to live away from home at the time, so I have no idea if this would have affected admissions.

Also, if you have CTY SET qualifying scores in SAT-V (now EBRW) or SAT-M, SET will write you a letter of reference.

Oh, and the CB website has administration dates for the SAT Subject tests through the 2018-2019 school year, so I would imagine that they will be around for at least another two years.
