My son had the "gifted testing" done at age 9 and his GAI was at the 99.9th %ile. They only assessed Verbal Comprehension and Perceptual Reasoning with the WISC. They did not assess Working Memory or Processing Speed. To qualify you needed a GAI of 98%ile. He was placed in a gifted program and did well until he hit high school where things fell apart. We recently had a new psych ed conducted to see if there was something that we were missing or if he was just truly bored and doesn't "see the point" as he claims. The scores seem to be significantly lower than previously. We were wondering what could account for the differences. According to this testing he does not qualify for the gifted program.
