    Hi,

I have a 7 year old son who just took an IQ test. We are planning to take the achievement test to try to get in DYS.

He doesn't like to write, but he tolerates it. He does not write fast. Also, if he knows the test is timed, he may freezes up.

My psychologist said he will do WJ III. However, when I looked through this forum, someone said WIAT is not timed?

When he did the IQ test (WISC IV), he hit the ceiling on the verbal comprehension. He has 6/7 grade reading level and possibly at least a 3rd grade math level. He is currently in 1st grade.

Should I do the WJ III or WIAT?

    Thanks, Dottie!
According to what you said, are there less timed component in WIAT?
Do they have the almost the same amount of written component?
We are also using the achievement test for out of level testing and acceleration, possibly skipping a grade. Is WIAT score as valid as WJ III?

Dottie, thank you for all the information and the trouble you've gone through to type everything out.

Thank you for your encouragement, Gratified3. I am stressed out. I don't like my son going through such serious test at this young age.

Our psychologist told us that having a high VCI on WISC IV does not mean he will get a high total reading score in WJ III, especially he has a lower processing speed score on WISC. Being a gifted boy with asynchronous development, it is impossible to speed up his writing.
