Hi everyone - I have been asked to create stickies for threads with lists of book recommendations gathered from member posts for different age ranges (0-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12, 13+). Here is the thread for the 0-2 age range.

Thanks Mark!

I'll be curating this list and have included a dropbox link to a list updated June 5.

Could everyone please list authors' names as surname, given name for ease of copying on my part. Thanks!

Brad Meltzer's books for kids! DS 18mos LOVES I am Amelia Earhart and I am Albert Einstein. They are more for the right side of the 0-2 range and beyond. I find very few books that DS will sit and want me to read over and over again, but these are a couple he does seem to really like! Now, if there was just an I am Sally Ride book, I'd be ECSTATIC!

Adding a link to a specific blog post in the thread Book recommendations: age 3-5,
as that post includes books for age range 0-2 in addition to age range 3-5.

The "Raising Readers" blog linked in that post also includes tips on how to inspire your children to become readers; Some of those tips begin at birth.

Adding a link to "1000 Books Before Kindergarten" early literacy challenge, which is a great concept, also a non-profit foundation, and an app:
- https://1000booksbeforekindergarten.org/education/

The tagline is: "Read it and Reap!"
Printable sheets are provided, to log 1,000 books:
https://1000booksbeforekindergarten.org/resources/

The importance of reading to children from birth (promoted by Hart & Risley, based on research beginning in the 1960s) has been documented in several resources in the public domain, some of which are linked from the "1000 books before kindergarten" website. While a few of the links to government resources are now defunct, the excellent information is still available on the WayBack Machine, Internet Archive. For example:

1) 8-page PDF file, Reading Tips For Parents -
https://web.archive.org/web/20120628180844/http://www2.ed.gov/parents/read/resources/readingtips/readingtips.pdf

2) webpage of SIMPLE STRATEGIES FOR CREATING STRONG READERS - https://web.archive.org/web/20120628174341/http://www2.ed.gov/parents/read/resources/readingtips/part_pg4.html#4

Although a suggested reading list of 1000 books is not provided, there are links to local libraries across the US: https://1000booksbeforekindergarten.org/find-a-program/

Families can accomplish the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge, even when their local library does not offer a formal program: https://1000booksbeforekindergarten.org/facebook-posts/

I recently put together a list of books for babies including bedtime stories, soft books, peek through books, and lift the flap books. They're my current favorites for reading with my 8 week old, but they'd be great for students up through pre-k/kindergarten too.
