    Gifted Issues Discussion Forum Guidelines
    • Be polite. When you write a message, please treat other people the way you would like to be treated. We welcome comments that contribute to a discussion in a meaningful and/or thought-provoking way. Regardless of whether you agree or disagree with something, please ensure that your comment adheres to the guidelines. Personal attacks are not allowed, nor are messages that threaten, are profane, are degrading or are obscene.

    • Stick to the topic. If you want to make a comment that will substantially change the direction of a thread, please start a new thread. You may write a comment in the old thread noting that you are starting a new one with a link. Do not hijack a thread.

    • Do not bully or insult. In any discussion, people may disagree with your opinions. This is a normal part of any discussion. If you do not agree with someone, feel free to post a thoughtful, constructive response, but do not bully or insult people.

    • Avoid pointless verbiage. Try to keep your comments succinct. We realize that some people like to write long messages and sometimes there is a need for a long explanation. Just remember that people will be less likely to read an essay-length message in its entirety!

    • Before posting, use the Search function. It is likely that your question or something similar to your question has been asked before. The Search function will allow you to see whether your question has already been addressed.

    • Remember that this is a public forum. This is not a diary or a private journal. Try not to post any information that will allow others to identify you, your children, or anyone else. Give enough context so that people reading your posts can offer helpful replies, but be mindful when providing test scores or other detailed information.

    • Avoid discussions about politics and religion, unless they specifically pertain to gifted education. There are other online resources for these subjects.

    • If you are new to the forum, keep in mind that some members have been posting here for years and have been around the block, and can be a great source of information. You can determine how long a poster has been a member by viewing the date they registered and how frequently they post by viewing their number of posts.

    • Use personal messages (PMs). If you want to communicate privately with someone, use a PM.

    • Proofread your message. If your message is well-written and does not have spelling, grammar or punctuation mistakes, it will be easier for everyone to understand your ideas.

    • Please do not cross-post. Please do not post the same message in different threads.

    • Do not engage in trolling or interact with others who do. These are people who deliberately post inflammatory comments meant to provoke a strong reaction. Please do not respond and alert the moderator of the post(s) for review. For more information, please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet).

    • Spam messages are prohibited on this forum and include the following:
      • Any message posted for the sole purpose of selling something.
      • Any message posted for the sole purpose of soliciting financial contributions to a cause, organization or other entity. If a member believes that there is a legitimate need to post such a message, s/he should contact the moderator.
      • Any message posted for the primary purpose of driving increased site visits, such as repeated links to a blog, commercial site or other organization.

Clearly, during the course of a discussion, members will link to sites that are relevant to the topic. Drawing attention to resources and sources of information contributes positively to a discussion and is an important part of any online conversation. Members may also start threads with links that interest others. Providing links in this way is encouraged. In contrast, the no-spam rule specifically prohibits manufactured attempts at driving people to a particular site. As an example, repeated linking by a member to a personal site is potential spamming behavior.

Because gray areas exist with regard to this subject, the moderator has the sole authority to determine what posts are spam. Members who believe that they have identified spam should contact the moderator, who will make a decision, and, if necessary, contact the offending party and/or revoke that persons posting privileges. If you have any questions about the above board guidelines, please contact admin@davidsongifted.org.

Please remember that we do not actively monitor the contents of posted messages and are not responsible for any messages posted. We do not vouch for or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and are not responsible for the contents of any message. The messages express the views of the author of the message, not necessarily the views of this BB or any entity associated with this BB. Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact us immediately by email. We have the ability to remove objectionable messages and we will make every effort to do so, within a reasonable time frame, if we determine that removal is necessary. This is a manual process, however, so please realize that we may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this BB to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law.

You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyrighted material is owned by you. Although we do not and cannot review the messages posted and are not responsible for the content of any of these messages, we reserve the right to delete any message for any reason whatsoever. You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless with respect to any claim based upon transmission of your messagearray(s).
