    After doing very well on above-level testing and ability, we are waiting to hear if ds did well enough on grade-level achievement. Ironically, that's the area I worry about the most, since he "checks out" a bit on tests that aren't challenging. I may have been given wrong information (by another parent) but I've been told that if he doesn't score 90%+ on grade-level achievement it's an automatic no, even if all we're asking for is essentially one or two subject advancements.

    I would hate to have to tell ds that after all this testing it's a no-go.

    Hopefully a school that used IAS and also understands above-level testing will also will understand that kids don't like to go backwards. Fingers crossed that your DS will do well on grade level too.

    And, this is after the fact, but I would recommend that anyone in a similar situation explain the importance of doing well on the easy tests in a situation like this. Getting more advanced material may be incentive enough to try to do well on all the tests.

    ETA -- If they use the IAS properly, no one factor is usually a killer (except possibly the kid doesn't want to accelerate or they would be joining a class with a sibling). Each test is given a score depending on how well the student does. So, a lower score would give a lower point on that section only. The other scores can pull up the results.
